What happens during a typical session? How do we get started?

Our first meeting will likely consist of an hour-long, on-site assessment.  During that time I will ask you a series of questions that will help us decide where to begin and determine your specific needs.  After this meeting, I will spend time formulating a plan for how to proceed.  Once you are ready to get started, sessions generally last two to four hours.

How long will it take to complete my project?

Every situation is different, depending on the size of the space, the amount of items to sort through and how much is accomplished during each session.  In most cases I can provide a time estimate during the initial assessment.

What if I feel embarrassed about my mess?

You should never feel uncomfortable about your space.  Not only have I probably seen it before, but I have lived it!  We all go through phases of our life when we feel like our minds and space are in a constant state of disaster.  I am thrilled to be able to work with you and help you gain the control and organization you desire.

Can my kids be home while we organize?

Generally it is a good idea if we can find a time to work without disruption.  I have two young children, so I know how challenging it can be to get anything done when they are in the house.  However, if we are working with older children or students, it is advantageous to have them be part of the process.  I am always willing to work around your schedule to the best of my ability.

What if I really don’t want to get rid of something? … Will you make me?

Of course not! The decision is ultimately yours, but keep in mind that sometimes it is necessary to purge some items.  I will work with you to help you decide if something is a tool, toy, treasure or trash.

What do I do with items that I want to get rid of?

I will help you decide if something can be donated, possibly sold on eBay or Craigslist or just needs to be thrown in the trash.  I have suggestions to help discard larger furniture items and large amounts of paperwork that needs to be shredded as well.  At the end of our session, I am happy to take what I can fit into my car to a local donation center and will send you the receipt for your tax records.

Can I do an organizing and feng shui session at the same time?

Generally, a specific feng shui consultation would need to be done on a separate occasion.  However, feng shui and organizing do go hand-in-hand.  A large part of feng shui is de-cluttering. When I help you organize your space, I will make suggestions that are congruent with feng shui principles.

How are the services billed?

I price my services competitively, with a two-hour minimum.  However, please watch my newsletter and blog, because special deals and packages are often offered!

My whole house needs organizing. Where do we start?

During the initial on-site assessment, we will decide together which space is the top priority for organization.  You might feel like your garage is the most cluttered area in the house.  However your family room is where you spend most of your time, and it might create a better feeling of relief to get that organized first.  Again the decision is yours, and we will talk through it together to help you make the decision that feels best for you.
